Kurrajong exceeded all of our expectations, and to say there was a shortage of things to do and see - would be a lie.

We honestly fell in love with this quirky town that calls last orders at 8pm, and is apple crazy. So whether you’re staying here for a few days or just visiting for the weekend - here are a few of our favourite things to do whilst up in Kurrajong.

Where to Stay.

Tiny Home Big View
With 2022 in full swing, it’s wild to think we’re halfway through February - so to help ease those mid-week blues, we booked a cheeky tiny escape. Whilst searching on Hipcamp we wanted to find somewhere that was: ✔️A short drive from Sydney, ✔️ affordable, ✔️ cozy and ✔️ close to local attractions - and Tiny Home Big Views ticked all of those boxes + more!!

Set on a stunning property in the foothills of Kurrajong, this gorgeous tiny home is perfect for any couple seeking absolute serenity. With a modern fit-out and well equipped loft-style cabin - there’s not much else left for you to pack other than your favourite book and plenty of time to sit back and take in the sleepy scenery.

During our stay, we took great delight feeding their cows each morning, who absolutely demolished the wheelbarrow of lucerne that was left for us, along with meeting their sassy hens who weren’t too interested in us (haha). Along with meeting the local farm animals we spent time playing board games, lounging around on the hammock and during the evenings curling up under the stars gazing at the most luminous sky - which has to be one of our favourite things to do when we’re away from the city!

Perks:
- 🌿 Semi-off grid
- ✨ Modern fit-out
- 💛 Suitable for 1 -2 guests.
- 🚗 Only 60min from Sydney
- 🐮 Feed the cows
- ☕ Short drive to the main group of shops
- 🛀 Shower and composting toilet
- 🔥 Firepit
- 🥘 BBQ and outdoor sitting area
- 🧀 Platters and hampers available on request
- ❄️️ Aircon

If you’re looking for a memorable weekend away without the price tag, Tiny Home Big Views is one of Kurrajong's best-kept secrets!

What to do in Bilpin. 🍎

Bilpin Cider: Due to its lush soil and mountain elevation - Bilpin is famous for all things apples! Founded in 2011, Bilpin Cider is fast becoming an iconic family name in the cider industry and it’s easy to see why.

During our stay, we ventured up to Bilpin and visited their cellar door. With tasting paddles available we were able to try some of their crowd favourites including our new go-to… the Archibald Cloudy Apple and if you’re the designated driver - their non-alcoholic Bilpin Blood Orange Cider is to die for.

During the weekends, make sure to take advantage of their grazing platters and grab one of their picnic rugs to make an afternoon of it. *Platters must be booked in advance.

The Grumpy Baker: If you’re looking for a quick snack, stop in at The Grumpy Baker Bilpin for a fresh meat pie or tasty pastry.

Bilpin Botanic Orchard: During mid-Feb - June, the Bilpin hinterland is in full swing of apple picking season. Here you’ll find the sweet Royal Gala during the earlier months, and Fuji, Granny Smith, Red Delicious and Honey Core around March/April.

Even though Apple season hadn’t started when we visited, we were lucky enough to be given a private tour by the owner of Bilpin Botanic Orchard. Andrew was so sweet to show us around his gorgeous farm, and let us pick from a few of the ripe orchards.

Entry is $5pp and you’re charged per kg depending on the varietal.

What to do in Richmond/Kurrajong.

Richmond: If you’re looking for a morning outing, head 15 minutes down the road into Richmond. Here you’ll find a strip of quaint shops and cafes sprawled along Windsor St.

Cafes:
The Second Home Cafe: Their french toast is to die for.
The Garden Cafe: Hidden behind the old Richmond bank, you’ll find yourself sitting beneath a large oak tree sipping tea and eating scones.

Boutiques:
The Bank Bazaar: Located in the old banking chamber which once housed a row of tellers you’ll find a stunning array of vintage antiques, millinery and fashion.

During our trip to Richmond, we met the beautiful owners of Autumn & Thistle + Lemon Homewares. Mother and daughter duo; Julie and Catherine - have an incredible eye for homewares, and have since created a vibrant yin & yang of colour, textures and scents which make up their two flagship stores. If you happen to drive through and homewares obsessed like me - be sure to visit.

Kurrajong:

Cafes/ Pubs:
The Archibald Hotel: If you’re after a great pub feed with an incredible view - The Archibald Hotel is the perfect spot for an afternoon bevy and chicken parmi! Nestled up high along Bells Line of Road at Kurrajong Heights - you’ll find yourself ogling at the panoramic views across Sydney.
